Minister States MoD Looking at Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Staff Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Cars.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, and personnel have been advised to avoid discussing classified information in all cars.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

In a recent interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese cars.

He stated that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, however noted that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any vehicle, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about security.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Defence Background

This revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

This broader defence situation highlights the significance of strong measures and vigilance in all areas of official operations, including vehicle use to discussions habits.
